to not have any idea; to not have a clue (“Sei lá!”)
“What’s the capital of Romania?”
“Beats me! Try looking it up on the web”.

“Sei lá! Tente achar na Internet.”
When the neighbor asked who had broken her window, all the boys said was “Beats me!” at the same time.
Quando a vizinha perguntou quem quebrara sua janela, tudo o que os garotos disseram foi “Sei lá!” ao mesmo tempo.

Take a rain check
to postpone until a later time (adiar; “deixar para a próxima”)
“I’m afraid I can’t go with you guys to the club today”, said Mark to his friends. “I’ll have to take a rain check on this one. I have a lot of notes I need to catch up on.”
“Acho que não posso ir com vocês ao clube hoje”, disse Mark aos amigos. “Vou ter que deixar para outro dia. Tenho muitas anotações para colocar em dia.”
“How about dinner tonight?”
“I’m sorry. I can’t tonight. Can I take a rain check?”
“Que tal jantarmos hoje à noite?”
“Desculpe. Hoje à noite eu não posso. Podemos marcar outro dia?

Couch potato
Someone who is not very active and spends a lot of time watching TV (pessoa que não é ativa e que passa muito tempo sentado assistindo à TV; “vegetal”)
“Nick is a real couch potato!”, Bill told his friends. “He only stays home and watches TV all day.”
“O Nick é mesmo um vegetal!”, disse Bill aos amigos. “Ele só fica em casa assistindo à TV o dia inteiro.”

“Why don’t you go out more often and take up a sport?”, Al advised a friend. “You don’t want to become a couch potato, do you?”
“Por que você não sai com mais freqüência e começa a praticar algum esporte?”, Al aconselhou a um amigo. “Você não quer se transformar num vegetal, quer?”
Throw in the towel
 to quit; to give up; to admit defeat (desistir; “entregar os pontos”; “jogar a toalha”)
The candidate threw in the towel once he realized his chances of winning the election were very slim.
O candidato jogou a toalha quando percebeu que suas chances de vencer a eleição
eram muito pequenas.
